Happy Thanksgiving!

Current Project: Mystic Taxi (steampunk urban fantasy)
Status: Page 190

1...What are you thankful for this year?

That my family is healthy, and we're all happy -- for the most part.

2...Do you have a Thanksgiving tradition?

I bring the Tofurkey.

3...Are you cooking or going somewhere for dinner?

We're going to my mother-in-law's, and one of my daughters will be there, as will my son, who's here from Colorado, and my grandson. The "women-folk" will cook together. 8^) There will be much yapping of dogs since my MIL is dogsitting for my SIL's 2 mini dauchsunds, she has 2 mini dauchsunds of her own, and my daughter is brining her german short haired pointer puppy. Oy.

4...Do you have the 'traditional' Thanksgiving dinner, or do you buck tradition with something different?

Traditional, but my husband and I don't eat turkey. We bring Tofurkey and a vegetarian gravy. I made my knock-out cranberry sauce and I'll be making steamed broccoli with cheese sauce.

5...A food you couldn't do without for the holiday?

My MIL's sweet potatoes.

6..With only a month to go before Christmas, have you started your Christmas shopping?

No. We won't be doing much gift-giving this year.

So how about everyone else? I'd love to see your answers to these questions. Have a very happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

1. What are you thankful for this year?

That my husband and I are both healthy. That my mom is doing very well after her surgery and has the most positive attitude of anyone I know. That my brothers and their wives and children are all doing well.

2. Do you have a Thanksgiving tradition?

Just family and good food!

3. Are you cooking or going somewhere for dinner?

Cooking.

4. Do you have the 'traditional' Thanksgiving dinner, or do you buck tradition with something different?

Traditional, but with a twist since it's just the two of us this year. Instead of a whole turkey, I'm making a turkey roulade: butterflied turkey breast covered with stuffing and then rolled up, tied and cooked in the oven for an hour or so.

5. A food you couldn't do without for the holiday?

My pumpkin pie.

6. With only a month to go before Christmas, have you started your Christmas shopping?

Nope, but it'll be done by the end of the weekend and I won't have to leave the house. Our tradition is to send edible gifts that we can order online (Dancing Deer and Monastery Bakery).

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving, wherever you're spending it!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

1) What am I thankful for? Hundreds of things! I keep a gratitude journal with the goal of listing at least five things every day I'm grateful for. I've done this for several years but haven't gone back to look at them much. Thanksgiving would be a good day to do that, wouldn't it?

2) Thanksgiving is different every year. LOL! So I guess change and flexibility are traditions.

3) I'm going to my son's for dinner. One of the roommates is cooking dinner, so I'm just contributing to the feast this year.

4) We usually have something traditional for dinner, even if it's only a turkey sandwich.

5) No food I couldn't do without. I just like to eat!

6) With my second book being release in December, I got into the holiday spirit early this year, so my Christmas shopping is pretty much done!

Hope you all have a wonderful day, however you choose to spend it!

1. What are you thankful for this year?

I'm thankful that my hubby came through surgery, seems to be past that awful first two weeks and is on the road to recovery. I'm also thankful that everyone in my family is relatively healthy.

2. Do you have a Thanksgiving tradition?

Same as Debbie...just family and good food! Though this year is the first year the extended family is all over the place. We have some good friends who have adopted us for the afternoon though.

3. Are you cooking or going somewhere for dinner?

Going. I can't stand the smell of turkey cooking. Blaaaah.

4. Do you have the 'traditional' Thanksgiving dinner, or do you buck tradition with something different?

Traditional, for the mnost part. The last few years - with my mom, though - we've done lobster instead of turkey. That's been great.

5. A food you couldn't do without for the holiday?

Rolls with butter and gravy.

6. With only a month to go before Christmas, have you started your Christmas shopping?

Um...so far I have my CP's gift, and I just bought gifts for my editor and agent online like 2 minutes ago. LOL.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

1. The past year. I'm so thankful to have my second thanksgiving with Tavy, and I'm so grateful to be at this point in my life, with these people in my life.

2. Eggnog :) We usually try to watch the Macy's parade. Growing up, we did a neat grace where we each said what we were thankful for.

3. For the first time ever, I am going OUT to dinner. My brother who lives with us really wanted to be around lots of people, and we blew the timing to try and get together a big "stragglers and friends" dinner. So, he came up with the idea of going out for dinner--none of us have ever done that before. We're going to the Hotel Oregon in McMinnville.

4. We usually do the traditional, Turkey or Ham. When I was vegan, we did Tofurkey, but one year I made a vegan turkey from scratch--that was a project. Growing up, there were two memorable years--one when we had a sandwich platter when the cooks rebelled, and one when we had stuffed shells b/c my mom wanted something different.

5. Egg nog. And pie, but I'm not sure I'm going to get one this year unless I make a GF one on the weekend for myself. I love all the holiday foods.

6. We're not doing a whole lot. I'm doing calendars for the family, and we've been putting aside some toys for Tavy over the last few months. DH and I will continue our tradition of doing a pile of stocking stuffer type gifts for each other--we like having a lot to open, and we like not spending $$, so we set a limit of $20-$40 and get a lot of little things.

1. I'm thankful for Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father, for my husband and children, and that I live in America.

2. For traditions-- I always make my own pies and the gravy for dinner.

3. Though we're "going", I cooked a turkey, stuffing, gravy and five different pies and took it all over to my in-laws, which was a good thing because when we got there my mom-in-laws turkey cooking bag burst and the juices all dried up and the turkey was raw. They tried to make gravy from bouillon, ick) and her stuffing was ruined because it was inside the raw turkey. Her rolls and fruit salad were great though. LOL

4. Most of the time we "buck' the traditional foods and stay home to eat pizza, Thai food, stuff like that, and then we go see movies. But we got sucked into the tradition this year. On our way home last night we decided that we're doing lobster next year, at home, and doing the movie thing again.

5. Food I couldn't do without-- My pumpkin pie, and I love apple/banana whipped cream salad.

6. Christmas shopping--No. I have nothing. Zip. But I have ideas! I was supposed to go Black Friday shopping this morning at 4:00 but opted out when my dh said he'd go with me in a couple of weeks. I love going Christmas shopping with him. I don't know why. Hmm... I'll have to ponder that one.

Hope you all had a great Turkey/Tofurkey Day!
