Current Project: still thinking
Status: ready to work
This check-in is a lot easier to write when I'm actually working. Without a project, ticking off the weeks seems fruitless. So, muse, wherever you are, come on back to me. Lest you think you're the only one giving any ground, I'm willing to meet you halfway. Name your price. More freedom to stretch your wings? Done. Less whining from me when the fruits of your imagination land us actual work? You got it. An apology for past transgressions? Consider it offered
Until such time as the muse deems I've suffered enough and comes home, I'm trying to enjoy the free time. I haven't wrapped Xmas gifts yet, but I've bought most of them, in fact it's a rare day where I don't go somewhere on some mission or the other. Despite the cold, the puppy from hell still needs walks. I've also watch daytime TV for the first time in quite awhile. Won't be sorry to give that up. Ditto house cleaning and laundry and all the rest. Why does idle time seem such an attractive commodity until you actually have it?
How are you doing?

Hang in there Alice. You'll be full of ideas soon. They'll strike when you least expect it.
I'll finish galley reads for the spirit book this morning. I've reworked five chapters on Bridled Hearts.
My goal this week is to get the revisions all complete on Bridled Hearts.
Ah, my muse has been multiplying lately. I've got two other little ideas sparking in my brain, but I have to finish my WIP first! I refuse to stop and start something else. I kill that fruitless pattern now. *stabs*
But... I still can't help writing the scenes that pop in my head with this recent idea. It's so much fun, because this hero is a pain in the butt. LOL But he'll just have to sit tight and wait for me. Sucker. }:D
Inspiration comes when it is needed the least, it seems. Hmph.
Katie said, "Inspiration comes when it is needed the least, it seems." This is so true! It's funny how the more involved in the current WIP one gets, the more everything else seems shiny!
This just wasn't a good week for me at all, which I feel really guilty admitting in light of Paty being productive in sub-zero temperatures, and Genene and Debbie on hospital duty, and Alice working through grief, all of which puts my misery in perspective. But, I didn't get ANYTHING done this week, and I'm upset about that--my whole week was trying to move past my queasy stomach and exhaustion and failing. This week will be better. I'm going to go to bed when Tavy does again tonight, but I'm going to try to write a few pages there, and just do that all week. Ten pages is my goal.
I also need to move forward with some stuff for the chapter--emails and other such, and I'd like to get some of that done this week as well.
Any and all nausea/exhaustion folk remedies and advice welcome :)
For Alice:
"When you get to the end of all the light that you know and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught how to fly." ~ Edward Teller
Your Muse is taking flying lessons right now. :)
Thank, Paty. I hope you're right. It always does, but I tend to have a flat learning curve so I never really believe it, and I have a history of retreating in times of huge stress. So, we'll see.
Kudos to you! Finishing galleys is one of life's most rewarding things, isn't it? (I don't much like them...) Bridled Hearts is the contemporary with the rodeo guy, right? Have fun with the revisions, I know you'll get them done.
Katie -- You make a good point. The more you dance, the better the steps, right? The more you draw, the more you learn about drawing. The same runs true for writing. I hadn't thought of it that way. I think tomorrow I'll just start writing whatever I want and see if ideas don't spring from that. It'll be better than any more TV, LOL.
Lovely getting to know you better at the Xmas party. I imagine you had a big hand in getting the house and food in such splendid order, so thank you.
Enjoy all your ideas!
Wavy, I love the quote and I love the idea my muse is off taking flying lessons even more. Go muse!
Your life leaves me breathless. Please cut yourself a little slack. Imagine you are watching Tavy go through everything you are going through (twenty odd years from now) and feeling guilty because she isn't meeting an arbitrary goal. Goals are important, but being flexible is just as important and you are NEWLY PREGNANT. Your tummy is taking regular trips to the roller coaster without you!
Missed you the other night.
Hey, Alice! You are so right about idle time. It's difficult for me to do "nothing." Fortunately, I rarely get to that point, but I am doing much better about not cramming so many things into so little time that I become overwhelmed. Balance is a good goal for me.
I too love Wavy's quote! Wow, a muse that can fly!
Wavy,I also have to echo Alice to give yourself some slack. The first three months of my pregnancies oh-so-many years ago were spent sleeping when I didn't absolutely have to be awake.
And, Alice, if you retreat in times of stress, perhaps that's what you need right now instead of pushing for production. Dunno. Bubble baths and catching up on the to-be-read stack could be wonderful. I vote with you about TV, though. Thanks, but no thanks!
Woo-hoo on finishing the galleys, Paty, as well as reworking the chapters on your contemporary!
This past week wasn't outrageously productive for me until yesterday. I put in some late night hours and have worked most of today on the third book in my nine-book series. Kicked out about twenty scene sheets as well as made several pages of notes on other stories in the series. The muse also came through with two great, meaty story twists that I'm very, very pleased with in that third book. I just need to put my scene sheets in order and will have the rough outline of book three completed.
With everything else going on, not sure I'm going to finish a rough outline with scene sheets of all nine books before the end of the year. However, since I'm not starting from scratch on each one, but building from the others, that's still my goal. I'll just see how it goes.
Hope everyone has a productive AND relaxed week. Though that may sound contradictory, I find I'm most pleased when I find that wonderful balance between the two. :)
I actually didn't help mom as much as I should have, but I did have homework to do, too. Still! *is guilty* She did pretty much everything. She's awesome like that. It was good to see you, too! ^_^
