SATURDAY CHECK-IN / CHALLENGE

Current Project: A BABY BETWEEN THEM
Status: Page 152

I looked back to last Saturday and saw only two people checked in. This leads me to believe almost everyone has grown weary of this Saturday check in business.

Lest you negate the importance of an external motivator, I will say that I awoke at 6:10 this a.m. and knowing I would post and knowing I wanted to see my page number higher, put in two hours and added almost a thousand words. By the end of the day, I hope that number will be doubled but even if I slack off, that's 30 pages or more from last week to this one. At that pace, I will finish the book on time and as the pace always accelerates as I get even further into the story, I am certain I can make my deadline.

Your turn.

Woo hoo, Alice! Way to put out those words!

I'm at page 271. I made some progress at the beginning of the week before company arrived.

Hopefully since I will be home tomorrow alone- I will have more pages to account for on my Monday blog.

And Alice- I like these check ins it makes be get busy(when I can).

Not working on another book yet, but my applications were accepted by Suite 101 and Demand Studios, and though neither pays a lot, it's a start. I have 7 article assignments I need to turn in by Friday. So that's my goal. :)

I did hear from my agent last Wednesday and she gave her stamp of approval to the revisions I made to Mystic, and she said Dorchester is currently reading Knight's Curse. Mystic will go out on submission in the next couple of weeks. Excitement! Squeee!

My daughter graduates college with honors next Saturday, so I'll be in Eugene watching my baby get both her diplomas (2 degrees). She also won the Ford Scholarship so will be going on to get her master's. I'm so proud!

Karen -- Please explain more about Suite 101 and Demand Studios applications? What's this all about?

I'm so excited for you about Mystic Taxi and Knight's Curse! KEEP US POSTED!

And whoa, way to go Karen's daughter!!!

Paty -- I'm jealous. If I was on page 271, I'd be within striking distance of done!

I'm glad you like the check-ins, I do, too. Maybe someone else should do them for awhile to give them a new shot in the arm.

Looking forward to your Monday blog!

Alice, they're freelance websites. You get a flat rate for writing articles, or you get a revenue percentage. It's kind of fun, and creative. I selected several arts & craft article assignments from Demand Studio, and I'm going to write about writing for Suite 101. I haven't given up on my graphic design business, but I need more work or we won't be able to pay our bills.

Thanks for the explanation, Karen. Paying the bills is good.

(and it does sound like fun. I'm going to go check them out, too. You'll be great on the one about writing. You always express yourself well.

Nope not weary of check-in, just . . . weary. Last week was recovery from surgery. And this week was lost to a friend's horrible, horrible tragedy. Next week, I will at least OPEN the synopsis, and hopefully finish it. Also, I will finalize stuff for the summer writing that I am taking.

Congrats to your daughter, Karen!!

Wavy, I'd forgotten about your surgery. Gallbladder, right? Wow, get better quick. You have some writing to do, girl. :)

Wavy, I've been sending positive vibes your way! Hope you are feeling stronger every day. I'm very sad to hear that a friend of yours suffered a horrible tragedy.

Good luck on the synopsis.

Karen congrats on the other jobs.

Wavy, hope you get to feeling better both physically and emotionally.

Company just left, now I have to find the mental strength to write. One group left at 4:30 this morning.... I feel wiped out.

Dang girl! One word: Bam. Now that's how you issue a challenge :) I wrote 2k last week, I'm hoping to write 1 or 2k today. Great work everyone!!

I sincerely hope you had the sense to be wiped out for today -- there's always tomorrow!

Lisa -- Ah ha, now I know how to get Lisa's attention!!!

Good job on the word count, way to go, rah, rah, cheers!

Alice -- I've not weary of the check-in or the challenge. I've just been...challenged. The day job has been sliding more and more into depressing territory and sucking away my energy. I vowed over the weekend, though, that it was time for me to stop allowing that!

On a more positive note, while I didn't meet my goal last week, I did write more backstory and think about possible solutions for some of the problem areas in my current WIP. So, I guess I'm moving forward, just very, very slowly.

Wavy--I hope you feel better soon!

Debbie -- I think it's a fallacy that progress is only measured in word count. Lots of advances are lateral, and writing without knowing where you're going is sometimes as productive as walking into shark invested waters (hey, you come up with a better metaphor, I'm damn near brain dead.) Today I may be on page 156 after taking some of the weekend off, but I am stuck and I am beginning to see why and how I can fix it -- btw, a synopsis does not mean you won't get stuck. If I ever implied that, shoot me now.)

I'm sorry about work. That kind of stress can drain a person's ability to be creative. It's great that you gave yourself a pep talk.
