Current Project: Post NaNo ProjectStatus: Revving Up!
New Year. New or re-newed writing goals. This is the time of year I try to step outside myself and look at my writing habits and ask, "How's that working for you?"
Things couldn't have been crazier for me in the last few weeks. Most of my time has been consumed by my husband's recovery from knee replacement surgery. It isn't that he's helpless, just that at the moment all of the household chores, including everything he usually does (and that's a lot) fall to me while he's recuperating. Add to that, my job is counting down to the final, final decision (will the new company want me to stay on after the buyout?). Suddenly all my good intentions to keep the momentum from NaNoWriMo going have fallen by the wayside.
It's time to rev up my writing engine, so to speak. This is the year I plan to kick my writing up to the next level and complete at least one book (more than one, if possible). That won't happen, though, if I don't start writing daily. One thing participating in NaNoWriMo taught me is that I have to write daily--or close to it--or I lose all my momentum. I'm simply not tempermentally suited to be a "weekend writer."
I've already publicly stated my goals in my personal blog. Still, I think I'll restate them here as well.
Writing Goals for 2010
1. Write Every Day
2. Update my weekly progress on the Saturday Check-in on this blog
3. Blog about my progress and my trials and tribulations on my personal blog at least 3 to 4 times per week.
4. Reassess my goals on a monthly basis
These may get adjusted after our Chapter meeting this week on goal setting. If so, I'll update them in my next blog post here.
So, how are you doing?

Debbie -- Your goals sound reasonable and doable and productive and I think that's important. Dreams are fantastic, but goals need to have their feet on the ground.
Today I read a good review of the Feb release (my editor sent me the most pertinent sentence from the RT review, and I quote it here: "This is one scary fun and rocking ride filled with danger." That's just what I was aiming for. Four stars. Happy days! I also IMd with Eli, called a friend in Colorado and received two boxes of books that were totally unexpected as they're larger than normal paperbacks and each contains three Intrigues. Mine is one. The book is called "The Intrigue Collection." All those factors together plus maybe it was just time and I sensed it, but the wheels are turning again. Where my writing mind was blank yesterday, it's running over with the bits and pieces of three books today. I feel like kissing the ground. Never take your ideas for granted.
So, that's how I am doing, thanks for asking. I love the way we're all here for each other everyday. I;m rooting for you!
Debbie, hooray for you for recommitting to your writing goals! I'll keep sending positive vibes that your day job situation plays out in the best way for you.
Alice, so glad the creativity is "on" again! Congratulations, also, on the wonderful review from RT!
I had a very busy holiday and have spent the last couple days catching up. I finished the rough outline of book 5 of my nine book series and am about half way through the rough outline of book 6. Not as far as I had hoped to be at this time, but I'm very pleased with the progress.
I'm goal-setting for the coming year, so this week's meeting comes at the perfect time. See you there!
Debbie, these are good goals. And I've found once you put them out there for others to see, you stick to them better. ;)
Alice, congrats on the review and the ideas flowing!!
My goal this year is to finish all my series commitments. So two spirit books and the last Halsey brother book.
I hear ya on the re-gaining thing, Debbie. That's where I feel I'm at right now. I'm almost finished putting away all the Christmas crap, I mean, decorations and as I've been doing that busy work my mind has been churning and gurgling more conflict for my characters. So, I'm ready for momentum to kick in soon and excited to make some goals for this year.
Yay Alice!! This is great news on all fronts! I'm so happy for you! :) Now, if you'd only show up to the meeting. *sigh*
I'm sad at how many are missing the meeting this month, especially since we have so much new information for everyone about the plans for this year for the chapter. Dang it. *sad face*
Glad to hear everyone's goals are getting in order; sounds like it's going to be a great year!
I'm in dire need of rediscovering my momentum too! I'm finally feeling better, but it's taking some time to get back on track.
Thanks for a great post!
And YAY ALICE! I'm so glad your muse is back, and what an awesome review!
Good luck, Debbie! It's always important to know what your goals are and where you want to be.
Alice! I'm so glad you're brain is back online!!!!! :) That's awesome news.
As for me...my writing goals are always ingrained in my head, thanks to deadlines. For now, finish my new proposal, send it to my agent. If I hear back on my adventure proposal I'll be working on those books. If not, I'll be putting together another new idea.
