Status: One Written and Sent, Three More to Do
Good morning, everyone. Hope you have an entertaining weekend planned or can at least kick back and recover from your week.
Today, for me, is visiting Mom day and that's always a crap shoot. It can be warm and fuzzy, scary and disturbing, or way off whack and there's no telling what to expect until after I punch in the code and walk inside the residence. Someone asked me if I was writing all this down so I could remember and use it in a book and I just stared at them. Uh, no. For one thing, I doubt I'll ever forget any of it and for another, I like happy endings.
Meanwhile, I've started the process of plotting and planning possible candidates for the option book and a new contract should I be fortunate enough to get one. I'm excited about the idea I just sent and would love to write the actual book so we'll see.

Hi Alice, hope today is warm and fuzzy. If your editor shoots down your cool idea, would you write it anyway later? Not just now?
I'm completely out of sync. My home is a disaster with the flooring half done. Hard to get motivated to clean when I know they'll be back on Tuesday to make a bigger mess.
We move out Monday into my grandmother's empty home in Canby. Then Thursday we head to Black Butte for four days. Sunday evening the floors will be done and we'll be able to return home. My head is spinning as I try to plan and pack for these back-to-back trips. Arrangements for travel, school, work, pets, meals, playing in snow, ack.
Writing? What writing?
Alice, good luck on the new book idea! Fingers crossed for the new contract, which I don't doubt for a second you'll get.
Made wonderful progress at the beach last weekend, which enabled me to write the black moment and climax of the book this week. Yay! Am now wrapping everything up. This should be the final chapter.
Kendra, you'll be in our neck of the woods for a few days? Hey, I have an idea. I don't know Paty's schedule, but maybe we could take a few hours to do a "write-in" at one of the coffee shops in Sisters while you're out this way. You could get a sitter and give yourself a much-needed break and chance to get some writing in. And I'll get some human company for a change! If this appeals to you, let me know. And anyone up for a trek to Central Oregon can certainly join in the fun.
I have a new addiction: Twitter. It's like cyber crack. I'm hoping it's just a phase I'm going through. I got hooked during #queryfail day on Thursday. Sigh.
Kendra -- floors! Wood? id that last year -- what a nightmare. Good luck.

Karen -- hurray for the black moment and the crisis.
Thanks for the wishes of good luck. I'm nervous about a new contract for two reasons:
1. I am always worried that the last book I wrote will be the last book I write. Period.
2. This economy is getting spooky.
Meanwhile, if you and Kendra get something together for Sisters, let me know. We drove to Sisters a week or so ago and might be up to it again, you never know!
Oh, and Kendra, I don't know if I would write the book if they didn't want it. If they don't like any of my ideas, I guess I would -- if they like one of the others better, then that's where I'll put my energy.
Alice, hooray on getting a proposal out that you're excited about!
Kendra, my sympathies on being in the middle of new flooring. a chunk of my downstairs has been in the remodeling process for weeks and I'll be soooo glad when my son and I are finished with it.
Karen, so cool on the major progress!
I had a similar breakthrough on goals, motivation and conflict in my novella, so am feeling really good about the edits I'm working on.
Genene -- Gotta love a breakthrough. Congrats. Edits are a lot easier when you can actually see the improvements.
And, btw, I had a very nice visit with my mother. It was a warm, fuzzy day.
Kendra, I just flashed back to my kitchen remodel in Evergreen, Colorado. Oh. My. God. A month without a kitchen and doing dishes in the bathtub. Lots of take out. Lots of microwavable meals. Blech.
Genene, congrats on the breakthrough! GMC is challenging. I'm working on my denouement right now, and it's probably going to take a few tries to get it right.
I was whisked away to Princeton early Saturday morning to set up irrigation wheel lines. We returned late this after noon.
I wrote 30 pages this week and have been continually doing research for this book and the novella. Tomorrow I'll be at the library reading micro fiche of newspapers in 1888.
Congrats, Alice on coming up with an idea that you are excited about.I'm sure your editor will see how excited you are and see if for it's potential.
Yes, Kendra, if you're going to be on this side of the mountain I'd find a way to meet up with you and Karen and anyone else who wants to. Except for Friday- I'll be headed to Spokane for a conference.
