Current Project: His Baby Sequel
Status: flummoxed
Another week has flown by. At least it seemed to me as though it flew by. I indulged in spring fever by planting a few pots with flowers but that's as creative as I got.
Didn't get much if any writing done this week and really didn't need to until late Friday afternoon when I was informed a few pages describing the sequel book would be needed sooner rather than later. I should have been plotting this book while I lazed around, but I guess I was marginally brain dead. Anyway, now I am scrambling. Story of my life.
What has everyone else been up to?

LOL, Alice! The weeks are truly flying by.
House remodeling projects continue to be at the top of my list, but edits to my novella are becoming more and more urgent. I need to wrap it up and get that story out for critique as May will bring more projects that seemed a long way off just a few weeks ago.
Which brings me full circle to the weeks flying by...
What have I been up to? Pretty much everything except writing. This has been one of those weeks...
On the negative side:
1. My company announced it's being bought by Oracle, which means I've got 3-12 months left before decisions are made about my job. I'm, of course, hoping for 12 months and expecting 3.
2. Just as we decide to replace the RV cover that ripped a few weeks ago and is flapping in the wind, the dishwasher went out.
3. We replaced the dishwasher, only to have the furnace go out last night. I fear replacement, not repair, is in the cards. *sigh*
(Appliances? You can stop it right now. No love, Your Owner)
But that's all been balanced out by my positive news -- my mother is off the chemo and her latest ultrasound didn't show any sign of cancer! Sure, they'll be monitoring her closely for quite a while, but still, that's great news.
And, while I didn't really write more than a handful of words last week, I did spend more time working on the characters. I feel like I've got a good handle on them now. That opening scene is in my head and I've got to get it *out*. LOL
Genene -- you are going to feel such a sense of accomplishment when you finish the novella. Sometimes projects with long deadlines are more challenging than ones with tight deadlines.
Glad I am not the only one for whom time races...
Hurry up and wait. Or...wait and hurry up. That is the name of this game, isn't it?
Glad to hear your editor liked the book idea, Alice. I know she'll like what you come up with for #2.
As for me...I, too, would like to say I was uber productive in the new word area, but I wasn't. I'm in chapter three, but I've had a bunch of kid stuff happening this week, the DH was gone and I haven't been feeling well. That said, I *did* figure out quite a few important things about my book, so I suppose that's still progress (just not of the 'word' kind).
Debi, you HAVE had a lot going on. Sorry to hear about the house issues - our furnace stopped working that weekend of our beach retreat, but luckily it was a minor/cheap fix for the repair guy. And our furnace is 13 yrs old. So, you never know. And I'm SO happy about your mom's good news!!! I know that's a big relief for you. Thinking positive thoughts on your job. ;)
Debbie, fingers crossed about your job. I hope it works out the way you want.
I have had the very same thing happen with appliances and suspected a mutiny was afoot. In my case, the fridge, dishwasher and stove all died within about a week of each other. I just couldn't believe it. And within another week, in a stunning show of solidarity, the washing machine coughed up it's last wet sock.
But who cares about appliances when you have such wonderful news about your mother!!!!!! Happy days, this is indeed the happy dance kind of information everyone can embrace. I hope she's close enough for you to hug.
Sitting here at my keyboard and with no brilliant ideas romping through my brain, I am reminded that about 4/5 of the writing happens away from the computer, inside a writer's head. But you know that! I hope you have the opportunity to get the opening scene on paper.
Eli -- The fact you are able to think at all with three kids, absent dh and not feeling well is mind boggling to me!
Chapter Three already! It seems to me you're moving faster than you think.
Checking in as we drive around Burns. My internet antenna isn't working right,so I"ll be driving a 1/2 mile to check in every day.
As for my week. I did get about 20 pages written. I'll be in Princeton all week and hope I'll get major writing done.Anyway that's the goal between changing pipes.
No new writing at all for me. But plenty of story dreaming, which is how I start every new book. I'm not quite ready to begin a new project. Still awaiting revision notes from my agent for Mystic Taxi.
I do have the first line written for Clockwork Cat. Probably won't stick, but it's a start. Iris Rose used to be such a pretty girl. Yay, Genene, on the novella! Oh, Deborah, wow. The whole corporate thing makes me cringe. Those were the days. Eli, ditto on the small children thing. All I have to worry about in my life now is Pupzilla, and she's a handful. Good luck, Alice, with the new pages of the sequel book!
Now I'm off to watch another episode of Alien Nation. Such a great series. Too bad it never took off as it should have.
Karen -- I love that first line and hope it doesn't change a bit. Man, I want to know what happened to Iris Rose!
Keep us posted!
Paty -- Good luck with the pages and the pipes...
btw, most of us would be happy to have a twenty page week....
Wow, the week really has flown by. Debbie, I'm keeping you in my thoughts!!
My goals this week were to 1) SEND THE SUBMISSION. Done. Very happy with the editing that I completed before hitting send. 2) Finalize contest entries. Started. Didn't get too far. 3) Pick a WIP. Did some awesome brainstorming with the amazingly insightful Alice, and spent the rest of the week unpacking her observations and mulling over the direction before . . . .
BAM! I have a Lisa moment. I am hit with an idea so compelling, so totally THE ONE that I am literally staggered with its impact.
However, I have a history of doing this right as I am about to get going on something. I'm trying to incubate the new idea while I move forward with my other priorities.
Goals for this week: It's a busy week b/c I am attending a writing seminar at the end of the week. My goal is get my contest entries out and to write down all the details of the BAM! idea.
OMG Karen, I LOVE that line. Sold.
Well maybe the mini-break will help you be super creative, and quickly creative :)
Oh Debbie...what a week you've had!!!!
I got some writing done - last night I rewrote 10 pages. I might as well just start from scratch instead of rewriting, it's practically the same thing!!
