Weekly Progress Check-In

Welcome!  This is the Mid-Willamette Valley RWA chapter's weekly progress check-in.

Did you meet your writing goals last week?  What do you plan to accomplish this week?

(The best prize is achieving your writing goals, but as an extra incentive, we will award gift cards from Powell's bookstore to the chapter member and the non-member who check in for the most weeks in 2012.)

Popping in, just habit! Logger in Petticoats is available at kindle, smashwords, and Nook as of the middle of last week.

My goal this week is to finish researching for Secrets of an Aztec Temple the second book in my four book action/adventure series. Looking forward to spending time with Tino and Isabella again. But I first need to learn more about Mexico City and the Aztec temples.

I didn't meet my goals this week, only having written once. That was partly because I haven't plotted this out in any detail. I knew what the next two scenes would be, but after that, only in a vague way.

It occurred to me this week that the story's "punchline" as I had written it in the first draft was not going to work quite as well in the voice the new sections were written in. I was a bit stymied.

Then this morning I had some good thoughts about how to proceed, so now I can move forward again.

Even though this story is character driven, there still has to be a plot!

Congratulations on the release, Paty! Will that be the last book in the "Petticoats" series, or do you have more plannned? The new series sounds intriguing.

Sounds like you're still making progress, Meggan. Writing, plotting, re-working -- it's all good. :-)

I didn't write as many words last week as I'd planned, but I did make progress in working out motivation and backstory (see tomorrow's blog!), so that was good. I'm hoping to start writing the actual story this week.

Paty, I'm so glad you're still stopping by! Congrats on getting LOGGER IN PETTICOATS up for sale! Woo-hoo! I'm also intrigued by your new series. Sounds like it will be a good one!

Meggan, I agree with Debbie--you're still making progress! So pat yourself on the back and keep moving forward!

Debbie, looking forward to tomorrow's blog to see what you've been up to! I'll be writing another novella for an anthology and giving it more of a steampunk flavor than the earlier novellas, so am looking for all the info I can find on steampunk. :)

I got to "The End" of edits for book #4 of my LEGACY series last week. Although that doesn't mean I'm through editing, if that makes sense.

I'm catching up on my databases for the series now to be sure I haven't dropped any story threads or forgotten series events. Then I'll read the entire story #4 out loud before it goes to a beta reader. These are part of my goals for the coming week.

I also finished up a couple book covers for other authors, and tweaked some of the covers for my LEGACY series. Seeing them all together on my computer screen is a great motivator to keep writing, writing, writing!

I'll also revisit the plot for the overall LEGACY series this coming week. Probably won't get to edits for book #5 this week because of other projects, but it's tantalizing me!

Happy writing to all!

Sounds like everyone's working hard and getting a lot done. Congrats on your latest release, Paty. I don't have that one yet, so I'll be picking it up on the Kindle. I am *really* looking forward to the Aztec book--it sounds like my cup of tea.

Good work, Meggan and Deb, sounds like you're both working through story issues so you can move forward. :-)

When do you start releasing the Legacy books, Genene? Are they going to be available on Kindle? (I'm using Kindle for the Mac to read all my ebooks.)

I got off track on my 1000 words a day goal; wrote a few thousand, but then started editing 5000 words per day instead--got to 15,000 on the first book I'm editing. So I'm making progress in a different way.

Good luck meeting this week's goals, everyone. :-)

Hi, Barb! My LEGACY series starts releasing in March--so soon!--and every two months after that. And, yes, they will be available in Mobipocket format, which is supposed to be compatible with the Kindle. Thank you for your interest!

Switching to editing 5000 words a day still is awesome progress! Great job!

I think I got about 8K last week? I know I got at least 6K but I forget exactly where I left off :) I'm closing in on 47K. Getting closer to done. This week I want 6k.

Great progress everyone. Can't wait to download Logger Paty!

Wow Barb you are an editing machine!

Way to go Megan and Genene!
