Eli's Challenge

Well, Eli is no doubt off partying seeing as it's her birthday, but the rest of us little worker bees have to plod along. Or not. It is Saturday, afterall.

How is everyone doing on their 1,000 word a day challenge? I looked back at my log for the week and saw that I averaged 1,000 words a day for the past seven days. That's not fast enough for the deadline since I have another deadline for the completed partial of the second book due in less than two weeks. That's what writing is, right? Deadlines, copyedits, new proposals, ideas out of the blue -- juggling.

My word count will pick up as I start the last one hundred pages which will come after a thorough read through tomorrow.

How about you? Please share!

My little blog looked so all alone, I am commenting on it myself. Of course, I don't really have anything new to add. Er...well...someone?

Okay, I'll comment, even though I'm not part of the challenge.

The past week I have reworked the beginning of my newest book several times. I just wasn't happy with the long, long sentences and long opening paragraphs and needed to punch and tighten it up to plunge the editor right into the story. I think I've finally managed to do that.

Next I wrote a knock-her-socks-off, concise, yet alluring (God, don't I hope this is all true) query letter.

Now I am putting the finishing touches on the synopsis. Then Wah-lah, I will be ready to query my number-one-pick editor. If I don't hear back from her in a timely fashion, I am prepared to pepper New York publishing house addresses with many more partial queries.

In the meantime, another bride-to-be, who heard of me by word of mouth, wants a wedding photographer for next summer. She wants to get together to look over my portfolio next Sunday. The prob? I don't have my portfolio put together yet, which means this upcoming week I will be frantically printing out wedding photos and organizing them into a professional looking book.

So much for writing next week...

Danita -- Thanks for visiting the Challenge blog! Your news is wonderful, both that you have started a new book and created a wow query letter and synopsis and that you are creating a portfolio for your other career.

A new book! It's like a new baby! Or is this the dog book? I hate to think that one is lingering on a shelf...

Thanks again for keeping me company!

I just self- edited on Saturday, but did double-duty on Sunday. I'm right in the muddy middle where things are getting squirrely, convolutions are running rampant, and a few new characters are getting introduced. And the complications complicate. But it's still fun. 8^)

Alice, you are doing great! I can see you going to 2000, then 3000, then more words a day as deadline mania sets in!

Danita, I love your description of your query letter! And of course it must be true. Congrats on the upcoming photography assignment. I'm sure you'll wow the bride-to-be with your photos.

Keep going, Karen! Push through that muddy middle.

I have to cheer you all on, as I didn't write over the weekend --
I cleaned house. Well, actually, I started cleaning house. The dining room table is no longer my closet. I even exhumed the summer clothes that were at the bottom of the stack and put them somewhere. :)

I'm getting caught up from overextending myself the last few months -- or perhaps years! -- and it feels so good to be back at a manageable pace.

Sorry! My comment wasn't so terrific that you needed to see it twice!
