Great Writing Doesn't Just Happen...

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday to you. I don't have any new, fresh ideas for you that are from my head so I'm borrowing a great blog from a writer named K. Stone. I hope the information is useful and that you don't think I'm flaking out by referring you to Stone's article.

I'll be spending the day in Portland with my favorite neck-poppin doc and then with my lil' sister and her dd. I hope you all have an incredible Writing Wednesday and that those of you who've joined the 1,000 words-a-day challenge by Eli are smokin it! :)

Here's the link, and let me know if you already do any of these things and love them, or if you found some new, useful tidbit to chew on.

Piper, I read the article. I do most of those things with the exception of the longhand and the printing out on paper for drafts. I also type with two fingers, though I am damn fast. I hit the link to the free typing lessons and tried it. Wow, I am lousy.

Anyway, I hope other people look at this guys suggestions. They aren't bad and many of them are ones I have discovered though the years. The thinking, the plotting, etc. Hope you have a nice day in Portland, Piper.

Two fingers! Alice! How do you manage that?!! LOL See, you really are amazing. Such a prolific writer for having a handicap. ROFLOL!

Thanks for sharing your comments. :)

I'm planning on having a great time in Portland! Thanks!

I read the article, too. Seems like this person has a lot of the same processes I do, except, I don't write a synopsis before I start writing. That comes after I'm done.

I won't be on the blog tomorrow at all. We're headed out today and won't get home until tomorrow night. But I'll be back somewhat on Friday. (I have uninvited company coming). A cousin I haven't seen in about 15 years who called my dad and said I'll be arriving in Redmond on Friday at 11am. so I have my dad coming over Thursday evening, my cousin and her father Friday night and I'm going to the Mary Buckham workshop on Saturday! so you may not hear from me every day on my word count, but I"ll keep track and let you know what I did each day when I have an internet connection or get to a computer.

Have a great day, Piper!

Interesting article, Piper. I do most of those things. Even - GASP! - write the synopsis now ahead of time. Yes, yes, I know, me writing a suckopsis first goes against the natural world order, but since I'm sending my agent proposals now instead of wasting months on a full draft only to hear, "hm, this may not work" I've had to learn to write the darn outline first.

The only thing I don't do is read outloud. I hate the sound of my own voice, so I just can't do that. And I do most of my editing on the screen although there are times I'll print. Sometimes. Though less now as my agent takes things electronically.

And, Alice, I too am amazed you can type with only two fingers. Wooooow. My HS typing teacher would have a field day with you.

I, too, use many of these suggestions (including writing longhand and printing out before editing), but I've never heard of software for accumulating online research clips (Google Notebook, Evernote, or Clipmarks.com). Has anyone used these? Are they time efficient or do they take so much time to learn how to use that you might as well cut and paste to Word documents as I do now? I hope you're enjoying your trip to Portland, Piper.
